Customer Review: Best Electric Kettle available in USA right now

I'm British and constantly use an electric kettle- not just for making tea but for filling pans for cooking and for use in cleaning. (Once you have an electric kettle you'll wonder how you lived without one before.)
This is the nicest (and best value for money) kettle available on the market in the USA right now (mid-2010). In the past there were a few other decent models available (from Oster and Melitta) but those seem to have disappeared. I would say this model is as good as many available in the UK where electric kettles are available in abundance and every household has one(or more).
I should state that I prefer plastic kettles to stainless steel and glass versions - the exteriors of which get far too hot to the touch and could easily burn you (or a child). I also don't like the look of stainless steel - always looks smudged and looks especially awful if you have a problem with hard water/limescale. I also don't believe plastic kettles are any more or less detrimental to health than other materials.
Compared to other models currently available online and in stores, the kettle offers:
-Sturdy overall design without being too heavy
-Easy to open hinged lid, without any fiddly(and easily broken)bits or stupid "latches" that cover the spout (like on some of the Krups models)
-360 degree base that makes it easy to replace cordless kettle on base(nothing to line up)
-Can be used easily by right or left handers (no fixed orientation of base or kettle like on some models)
-Large water level window
-Off/on indicator light
-Off/on switch sturdy and not in an awkward location, as on some models
-Concealed element
-Lid opens wide for easy cleaning/access to interior
-Quick to boil, even when full (some models take ages)
-Half the price of some other luxury brands (Amazon price)and better quality
It also offers a temperature gauge should you want to heat water to less-than-full-boil. I suppose there are uses for this, but I haven't ever tried it, so I don't know how well it works.
We previously owned a different TFal Vitesse kettle which worked well (mechanically) but we didn't like the on/off switch, found the lid a bit tricky at times and it had no on/off indicator light - however this model had improved on all those points, so if you had an older Vitesse kettle and didn't like it, don't let that stop you from trying this one.
One last comment - this kettle (all electric kettles really) is meant ONLY for boiling water. I'm surprised how many times people mention to me that they bought an electric kettle (for the first time) and then tried to make tea or coffee (or soup!)IN the kettle.

T-fal's new high-speed kettle employs 1,750 watts of electric power to bring 1 cup of cold water to a rolling boil in one minute. With the kettle filled to its 7-cup capacity, a full boil is achieved in five minutes. That makes the kettle ideal for instant coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or instant soups. To ensure that the water doesn't boil away if attention is diverted, the kettle shuts off automatically once the water reaches full boil. For convenience, it lifts off its corded power base for cordless pouring, can be set on the power base in any direction, and turns on (or off) with a simple push of a button on the handle. Inside the spout there's a removable and washable antiscale filter that extends the kettle's life. With an exterior of hard, gleaming plastic, the kettle wipes clean easily.
