I bought this electric kettle mostly for making coffee in my french press. However, I use it for much more. I never realized how much an electric kettle would help around the house. I now use it for the following... coffee, tea, cocoa, instant oatmeal, ramen, any cooking/baking that calls for boiled water, pre-boiling water for pasta, and even hot water for cleaning around the house.
Pros
-Heats water FAST! (1750 watts, as another poster listed, is just under the 1800 W US limit)
-Keeps the water hot for a good bit of time. (Put it this way, I make coffee, throw it in a thermos, and leave for work. When my wife wakes up 45 minutes later, it's still plenty hot to make instant oatmeal)
-Cordless pouring/filling
-Adjustable temp (drinkable cocoa temp to full boil)
-I haven't experienced any plastic taste that other commenter mentioned, even when allowing the water to cool as he/she mentioned. (Anyone who feels a need to mention their credentials in an online product review is usually over-critical or full of poo... in my humble opinion)
-Viewing window for filling/knowing how much water is left.
-Cheaper than most comparable kettles out there right now.
Cons
-Yes, the outside of the unit gets hot to the touch in some points, but I have yet to find a kettle that doesn't.
-It does get a bit noisy, but that is just a byproduct of the water having to heat so fast.
I can't imagine living without this thing, and when I finally wear it out, I hope the same model is still available, or I can find something similar. I honestly can't think of anything I would want to change on this unit.

I am very pleased with this purchase - well-priced and delivers hot water in mere minutes. It has replaced a larger capacity Japanese thermos-style hot pot which had to be kept plugged in so the water would stay hot. Now I just plug in this smaller model whenever I want hot or lukewarm water (love the option of how hot I want my water)and voila! This T-Fal 1.7L unit takes up way less room on my counter, is esthetically pleasing to look at and quite sturdy. I had looked at several other models at Bed, Bath & Beyond as well as Target, and they all felt flimsy. Very happy with my purchase!!

I had used this kettle while staying at an agriculturismo (rural B & B) in Italy. I liked the way you could heat a little water, or a lot, and especially the way it shut itself off when the water was as hot as you wanted. So when I returned home, I ordered it from Amazon. I am very satisfied with it. It fills easily through the spout, and when my hard water makes the bottom all crusted with lime, I use white vinegar, following the instructions that came with the electric kettle, and it cleans beautifully. The one in Italy was the same size, but was rectangular rather than round shaped, and seemed to take up less room on the counter. I liked that shape better.Customer Review: love it

I did a search and researched a ton of electric kettles. My aunt has one and loves it also,so I got it despite reading about plastic smell. We use it everynight and the smell is minimal and there is no plastic taste. I boiled water five times and dumped it before I used it. I love it! Heats water super fast.
